PROJECT DESCRIPTION

While interning with Graco Inc., I was tasked with designing and fabricating an spray gun air cap plug. The plug was to be used for performance requirement testing of their new rotary applicator spray gun. The plug had to be ergonomic and seal the nozzle of the spray gun without having to apply excessive pressure. I designed, 3D printed, and tested several iterations of my design before arriving at a final design. The final product worked extremely well, and is now in use by Graco's test technicians.

3D PRINTING

I used Creo to create 3D models of all of my design alternatives. I 3D printed each design with an in-house 3D printer to quickly test the functionality of each design.

DRAFTING

Once the design was finalized, I created both detail and assembly drawings so that more plugs could be made in the future.

WORK INSTRUCTIONS

I also wrote work instructions for the plug. The work instructions included assembly instructions, testing procedures, and a parts list. Click here to view the work instruction document.
